❛But I do feel strange-almost unearthly. I'll never get used to being alive. It's a mystery. Always startled to find I've survived.

PERSONALITY
Single-minded devotion to a fault, duty-bound and oathsworn; Godwyne chooses to believe words are binding. Promises made must be kept and to lie is the coward's way. This of course, does not include when he must lie to himself and bury his head in the snow when the truth becomes inconvienent. Stubborn and prideful, Godwyne is just as likely to be a stalwart ally in a fight as he is to start them in the tavern.

Childhood and Adolescence Some vague memories might persist of a time when Godwyne ran through green fields near Falcon's Nest. His family, while of noble lineage was a minor house in the larger game of politics and standing in Ishgard. What year it burned to the ground and he lost all but his older brother, Marceau, is lost to the blur of memories that followed. As a banner house beneath Haillenarte, they were taken in as wards, cared for and housed, but put to work to earn their keep. Inspired by grand tales of knights, Godwyne turned his attention away from Haillenarte's forges to squire for their soldiers and knights. Barely a teen, he already understood that it would be grueling work and he readily accepted it, throwing himself into the task. Despite his brother's cautionary words, he eventually threw in not with the Temple Knights but with the Dragoons. Godwyne believed that by proving his worth, he might restore House Langlois as minor as it had been. Trial after trial, suffering but surviving the deadly training to don the drachenmail. Adulthood As endless winter settled in Coerthas, Godwyne settled into his role among the Dragoons. The days blurred one into the next. Fighting dragons and heretics, freezing in the bitter snow, returning to a hard bunk in the barracks. There was no glory to be found in his actions. No accomplishment was great enough to garner the respect he desired nor the attention from the High Houses to even consider making moves among them to raise the plight of Langlois with them. His brother, comfortable in the clergy, begged him to let it go, their line was done and it ended with them. To Marceau, there was no point in fighting fate. It was not enough to sway his reckless sibling however and Godwyne sought greater and greater threats. Frustrated and bitter, it was not long before he was looking for fights amongst allies as often as he drew his lance on his enemies. Recent Events With the sudden conclusion of the Dragonsong War at the hand of the Warrior of Light, Godwyne was left without a singular cause. He went where directed, throwing in where he could to help and remain busy. In the quiet time between tasks, he became quite familiar with what the bottom of a tankard looks like and if asked, could describe in great detail what the underside of the tables of the Forgotten Knight look like.

APPEARANCE
Godwyne is a tall elezen, broad shouldered and lean muscle. He keeps his beard short and scruffy in contrast to his hair which seems to be a perpetual, shaggy mess that hangs in front of his blue eyes. If he is not sporting his drachenmail, he is often in a tunic or cloaked in dull, navy blues or black. Besides the scar across his cheek, he has a myriad of other scars from the many skirmishes and serve as proof of his service.

Marceau Langlois Older brother to Godwyne. Halonic Priest and scholar. Ambivalent most days, enemies the rest.
The Fall of House Langlois How many times is the same story told? A once great house brought to ruin by war. Try as they might to restore their name their number dwindled and with it, their influence and reputation. Though Godwyne and his older brother bear their familial name, it is likely their line ends with them. Sibling Rivalry Godwyne and Marceau do not see eye to eye on most things. Their arguments are not quiet and thus rarely kept private. Most of these arguments boil down to Marceau's acceptance of the end of their house and his attempts to get his stubborn brother to let go as well. Godwyne however, is determined and believes through some valiant act he can cement his name in history and bring some honour back to their name. Or he will damn well die trying.
The Measure of One's Worth If the banners of Langlois are to rise once more along side the other minor houses, Godwyne must remind them first that some of their name remain. In his mind, the best way to do that, is to ensure his actions do not go unnoticed. A heroic deed, a valiant act, or selfless sacrifice if necessary; whatever it takes. Even if he does not personally reap the rewards, even if his thankless brother is the only one that remains. Godwyne will throw his lance in whatever company is heading to where the fighting is thickest or the foes the most ferocious. Sparring Match Godwyne is a creature of habit first and foremost. He is not one to take a day of rest when he could be in the training yard looking for a sparring partner to pratice with: after all a straw-filled dummy will only go so far. And while he might prefer to keep the pratice in the yard, an invitation to one of the many fighting pits won't be snubbed should someone believe he might for an entertaining opponent for a night.
